Windows Live Messenger 8.5 Beta

UPDATE: To download Windows Live Messenger 8.5 BETA, head to this link.

It’s all over the Internet. Windows Live Messenger (WLM) 8.5 Beta has been leaked out!

Initially leaked by a dedicated Windows Live Messenger Spanish website, Messenger Addictos (Eng: Messenger Addicts), the new Windows Live Messenger 8.5 Beta features a new installer system, a complete overhaul of it’s functions and even has a new user interface (UI), influenced by Windows Vista.

The new version also integrates with Windows Live Folders – Microsoft’s online storage facility [very much like XDrive and GDrive (Gmail Drive)] and also Windows Live OneCare – Microsoft’s antivirus & antispyware solution.

Oh ya! Do watch out for some new and cuter emoticons in this version!

After the jump are a few solutions so get Windows Live Messenger 8.5 Beta running on your system

The leaked version (Version 8.5.1235.0517) now no longer supports Plug-ins/Add-ins. Add-ins like Messenger Plus! Live will not work on this version, unless Messenger Plus! releases a new version to accomodate this new WLM. There is a workaround. Copy “msimg32.dll” from your WLM v8.1 (installed with Messenger Plus Live, of course) into WLM v8.5’s installation folder.

The leaked build is only available in Spanish at the moment. However, there is a way to change the language to English by copying over the old language file “msglang.dll” from your WLM v8.1 overwriting the language file for WLM 8.5 Beta, “msglang.8.5.1235.0517.dll”.

Do take note that the new WLM 8.5 Beta has a different installation directory – %programfiles%\Windows Live\Messenger\ (which is normally: C:\Program Files\Windows Live\Messenger\)
