Call of Duty: World at War Debut Trailer
Last year’s Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare was an excellent game, combining thrilling single player and multiplayer experience together, making it one of the best game last year. Everyone is waiting eagerly for the next Call of Duty, hoping it could at least be as good as CoD4 or surpass it. Last week, the debut trailer has hit the net.
CoD4 was revolutionary as the developer, Infinity Ward changed the timeline from World War 2 to modern warfare. They stated the move was because World War 2 lacks any more major battle to be used effectively in game. Just when I enjoy killing with M4 Carbine and G36C in CoD4, the new trailer debuts. It clearly shows the game reverts back to its traditional WW2 era. Just that this time no more Europe, they change the environment to Pacific Ocean. I don’t know if it’s a good move. Time will tell.
In WW2, the Japanese exciles at guerilla and ambush tactics. It seems the game has taken it into account. The trailer shows the Japanese hiding as corpses or climbing on trees waiting for enemies to pass by before ambushing them. In a recent GameSpot’s article, it is revealed that Japanese snipers will intentionally wound a soldier so others come rushing to his aid, then taking out the group while they’re distracted. Sounds interesting!
Can you see the flamethrowers in the trailer? This is a welcome addition to the game as flamethrowers are seldom added into FPS games. On a side note, in war, people who hold flamethrowers tend to die in a very dramatic manner. Imagine a bullet bursting through the gas tank behind you. Well, you get the idea. Another issue of flamethrowers is the graphical problem. Poor engine doesn’t have the ability to handle all the fire textures on screen. Even if it can, the result will not be nice. It seems the trend is changing now, not only the next Call of Duty has it, but Far Cry 2 gonna include flamethrowers as well. A chance to show off your graphic engine I would say. The game still uses CoD4 engine so system requirements shouldn’t be a problem.
I guess that’s all for the trailer. Enjoy!
