Dell Malaysia New Notebook Lineup

Dell Malaysia has just recently announced 4 new models to add to their current lineup. Some replacing older models like the Dell XPS M1210 which I just recently bought (dang!)
The new models are Inspiron 1420, Inspiron 1520, Inspiron 1720 and XPS M1330. The model number represents the screen size of each notebook. (1420 features a 14.2 inch screen, and so forth)

All the new Laptop models features Intel Core 2 Duo and Windows Vista and has built in Bluetooth. It also comes with an optional Blu-ray Disc Drive (BD/DVD/CD Burner with dual layer capability) and an Intel 4965AGN 802.11n Mini Card.
Similar to the XPS M1210, the new lineup has options to expand it’s mobile capability to a higher level. All of them has an optional WWAN module (wireless broadband) and a SIM-card adapter for it. However, because of Malaysia’s penetration on wireless broadband is quite low, it’s not available yet. But hey, option is still there!
There’s even a 2.0 megapixel webcam for the new lineup
Dell even boast about their latest 9–cell battery. They claim you can have up to 7 hours of battery time. Through my experience, 6 hours of battery time will only be available WHEN you just reformatted your laptop. After installing programs and all, you’ll find yourself with about 4 hours of battery time. Maybe this new battery will live up to itself.
Have better news. My XPS M1210 9 cell battery lasted for about 6 hours during my journey from KL to Melaka to Johor. By the end of the journey, I still had 1 hour left to play with. It all depends on how you manage your battery and your applications and hardware.
It also comes with vibrant colours (Inspiron 1420, Inspiron 1520, Inspiron 1720 has Jet Black, Alpine White, Midnight Blue, Expresso Brown, Spring Green, Flamingo Pink, Ruby Red and Sunshine Yellow; XPS M1330 has Crimson Red, Tuxedo Black and Pearlescent White). It’s a good thing that Dell has finally moved away from the standard grey and white design for so many years. Even in reality, I wouldn’t want to end up with the same looking laptop with my other classmates. It’s good to have some variety
Inspiron 1420 and XPS M1310 comes with NVIDIA GeForce Go 8400M GS (128MB DDR3) dedicated graphics memory while Inspiron 1520 and Inspiron 1720 comes with NVIDIA GeForce Go 8600M GT (256MB DDR2) dedicated graphics memory.
At the time of writing, the new lineup features 2GB 667MHz DDR2 RAM through the free upgrade promotion. Unfortunately it expires today expired, but I’m sure it will be back soon.

August 27th, 2007 at 8:15 pmHi Irene, I would suggest that you call Dell for warranty. It could be manufactoring fault.
