Truth behind APIIT’s winning at the Intervarsity Programming Competition

This was on webspace for some time already.

I can’t help it but to say, it’s an exaggerated picture.

If you’re following my side-notes updates, I provided a little coverage on the event.

We didn’t win anything. Main prizes were for the top 3 teams in the 2nd round. We didn’t qualify for the 2nd round.

Teams who didn’t win anything went home with a consolation prize.

Okay, maybe I’m just upset I wasn’t mentioned. :P

The competition was kinda fun. First round, a closed book session, we were given 6 programming questions to do. They had a palindrome question, a stopwatch, a date related question (input a date and return zodiac), a tower of Hanoi sort-of question, a question on storing employee data with sort insertion algorithms (basically linked list) and finally a drawing out a tree according to a user input (the concept of recursion).

Each question 10 points.

To be honest, I could only do 2 questions from here; stopwatch and the zodiac. I could nearly do the employees question but i forgotten how to do linked lists. I got all the logics in my head but no means to code it. :(

In the end, me and my partner, Isabella – R&D staff of APIIT completed 3.25 questions. She did the palindrome and recursion questions.

To qualify we needed minimum 50 points, in other words at least 5 questions completed. They announced the qualifiers of the second round after lunch – which was disappointing. But hey, didn’t pay anything. APIIT paid everything.

APIIT sent two teams, my team did 3.25 questions, another 2. I guess we win. :P

After the results were announced, we head to Melaka Town to look for the bus station. Took us some time to find it because the maps I had was quite outdated as all the old bus terminals shifted to a new huge terminal at Melaka Sentral. I headed down to Johor to meet my family.

PS: Never travel to 2 states in a day. TIRING.

ahahaha…was it language specific programming? if not just bantai pseudocoding cannot ar? ^___^

i did that once for one of the tests….din get the proper marks for it, but was given SOME marks for the effort…the logic was ok, but the lecturer added that it would have been better if it was done in C, which was the subject. funniest day in my programming life.
