Nuffnang Advertising Goes Global

It’s just been announced that Nuffnang will now be serving advertising campaigns for the US and Canadian clients now. Here’s the excerpt from Nuffnang.com.my

This week marks the first week that Nuffnang has started to run large-scale campaigns for US and Canadian clients.

These initial campaigns are aimed at maximizing the revenue for each blogger and most importantly, allow better earnings for bloggers that have a higher proportion of foreign unique visits.

Note that many blogs have been involved in the latest US/Canada Geo-Located campaigns and you would have received e-mails about them but you will NOT be able to see them on your blog if you’re surfing from a Malaysian or Singaporean IP address. (more)

Will we have better income from now on? I hope so. =)

7 Free Window Managers For Windows

Messy Desktop

Through the few years of studying, writing reports and programming I always face one problem, which is managing my windows. I believe whoever has this problems will suffer from efficiency problems. Here’s a few scenarios:

If I’m compiling assignments and reports, I would have up to 5 Microsoft Word windows open at one time. 4 of it may be my groupmates’ work, and one to compile everything together. Alt-tabbing isn’t fun when all the windows look the same.

If I’m doing web design, I’d most probably would want my design to fit different kind of resolutions. (There’s a Firefox extension for this, but that’s not what I’m offering)

If I’m programming, I would want different source files up on screen, maybe as smaller windows to the main source file. Makes refering and coding easier

If I’m studying, researching or blogging I would want to have my Notepad/Microsoft Word/Microsot OneNote as well as 1 or 2 browsers in view at the same time. Minimal time spent alt-tabbing to different windows.

If I had a big monitor or multiple monitors, I would want to resize my windows accordingly without having to resize each and every window everytime I start an application.

So what do you do to be efficient with what you already have? Here I’ll present to you some free solutions to your desktop and window management problems.

DM2

DM2 Window Manager

DM2 provides several Windows enhancements that may help in every-day work. One of the nicest and most popular features of DM2 is minimizing windows to floating icons® freeing both task bar and tray bar space. Moreover, DM2 can manipulate windows in various ways: minimize to tray, make them standing always on-top over all other windows, roll to caption, resize, align to screen borders, hide, set the opacity etc. DM2 also helps with Open/Save dialog boxes, by providing user-defined menu with favorites and recent files and folders. Plenty of program’s settings options will satisfy most of requirements.

DM2 also supports custom plugins, which further enhances the program and that usually covers some more specific functionalities. So, from this aspect, one may think of DM2 as a small, but robust manager for all kind of plugins. Find what you need, plug it in, and use it:)

GridMove

GridMove Window Manager

GridMove is a windows management program. It helps you with your window resizing needs by defining a visual grid on your desktop, to which you can easily snap windows. This program comes bundled with some predefined grid templates, that can be easily swaped, but also has ways of creating custom grids or sharing grids made by others. It’s even possible to create dynamic custom grids by yourself.

GridMove makes moving windows, resizing windows, displaying them on cascade or on mosaic, making them on top or anything you can think of as easy as drag and drop or even with hotkeys. Multi-monitor support.

Search and Download MP3, E-books and Software with G2P

Lets face it. Google is a very powerful tool if one knows how to use it. You can do calculations, get definitions, unit conversion, search for specific file names or extensions, and so much more.

Well that’s if you know the commands and all. While to say that the commands are complex, it’s not true either, but you need to know the right combination of commands to get what you want.

G2P.org (Google to Person) makes searching for songs, software, ebooks and even ringtones so simplified that you as the user do not have to worry about the right syntax to use. G2P takes care of this for you.

1957

Malaysia’s Year of Independence.

Here’s a thought, have you ever tried searching/Google-ling ‘1957’ before? I bet you haven’t.

But if you do, what do you see?

On Google we have the normal first few entries, Wikipedia’s entry of the year of 1957, followed by ‘1957 in music’. Same goes with Yahoo. (Click here for 1957@Google, 1957@Yahoo)

Now lets look for a content about Malaysia or Malaya.

Near the bottom of Google’s first search page we have Jeff Ooi’s post on Malaysia.

But there’s none for Yahoo.

Back to topic, is it SEO didn’t work for who posted, or was it I searching for the wrong keywords? On the other hand, does the lack of Malaysia related post of that year somehow show how much we’ve really accomplished in our 50th year?

Downloading 5 Gigs In A Day

You can call me crazy, but I just love downloading, no matter what the content is. Oklah, not everything I download.

But everyone knows how sucky it is to download anything with TMNet Streamyx. You do know that you need at least a Duo Core to download from TMNet right?

Anyways, I recently, well, since 1 month ago, I’ve been using a Virtual Private Network (VPN) service called BolehVPN at an affordable rate. It comes in packages of 3, 7, 30, 60 and 90 days. I bought 30 days for RM30. RM1 per day.

So what does it do for me?

Simple, really. They have a few servers in the US and UK as well as some local ones. You connect to them remotely and you can start doing whatever you would like to do. You can surf, download and even view sites which are blocked by your ISP (mainly TMNet, but others also are applicable) because VPN traffic cannot be filtered, analyzed or traffic shaped by ISPs.

But there’s other uses of a VPN as well. Take me for example. I was in Singapore not too long ago staying in a motel. They had Internet access there but I’m a little worried about my confidential data transmitting to sniffers & hackers. So I used my VPN service in Singapore for my surfing, mailing and chatting. All via VPN.

Here’s a screenshot of my downloads within the past 12 hours.

Vodafone McLaren F1 Stripped from Constructors Championship

Vodafone McLaren F1 team has been fined US$100 million and is stripped from it’s Constructors Championship Points for this year. This is because McLaren has been found to have possession of confidential Ferrari data.

Such data includes the weight distribution and braking system of Ferrari’s car, a flexible rear wing design and a gas used by the Italian team to inflate its tyres. It is also suggested that Ferrari’s pit stop strategy in this year’s Australian Grand Prix was also leaked real-time during raceday.

The guilty parties includes Ferrari engineer, Nigel Stepney and McLaren senior designer Mike Coughlan.

McLaren F1 Drivers, Pedro De la Rosa & Fernando Alonso were also said to have received these data as well. However, they have came forward with the evidence and were granted immunity from any personal sanctions from FIA World Motor Sport Council.
