So Near Yet So Far

There’s a correction on my previous post… I qualified 12th out of 18. Not 8th.

Yesterday was a tiring day for me but not entirely the happiest day of my life… But neither less, I had fun.

I had a few targets to aim for… Firstly I didn’t wanna finish lower than I qualified… Means I should finish top 12… Next, I was aiming for a 200 average… Then lastly, as a secondary objective, try to cover my expenses for the entire tournament – which meant i needed to finish 5th or better.

I look like an idiot… =.=

My first 7 games gave me a 200 average which put me in 4th place… but at the end 3 bad games came in and ended up in 11th… :(

Scorecard: http://www.mtbc.org.my/asp/2007/31stnat-2.asp?Division=BO

The breakdown of my scorecard:

Score 188 190 172 214 203 224 215 149 145 160
Total 188 378 550 764 967 1191 1406 1555 1700 1860
Target
(200 avg)
200 400 600 800 1000 1200 1400 1600 1800 2000
Difference 12 22 50 36 33 9 -6 45 100 140
Pos: 7 6 7 4 5 5 4 7 8 11

I dropped 3 games at the end because of Kiew Lai Eng la! Why you come and watch me bowl?? Bring bad luck only… Hahaha… :P

Anyways, was really sad to finish 11th when i had a good game… but hey, I’m a finalist for Boys Open… Should be happy with that… :)

This whole week I’ve been bowling non stop… League and this tourney… I need a rest.

Giving It Another Try

For the 5 years of bowling, I never qualify for a major tournament like Malaysia Closed or Open or Junior All Stars… Even Interstate I couldn’t qualify preliminary selection in KL – but that’s because there’s a lot of red tapes and so forth…

This year, I decided to for the Malaysian Closed again…

You see, qualifying is like gambling… The first time you qualify, you wouldn’t make the cut. Then you invest again for another try… each try costs about RM50 (you also have to register before qualifying of course, which costs RM40 one time) and you’ll get frustrated when you couldn’t get it the second time, so you try for the third time and so fourth.

This time, i had to promise myself. Only 2 tries. It’s either make or break. Total spent: RM140.

My first try gave me a score of 17x, 17x, 16x, and a 22x.  Total is 738. Not enough to qualify… I had problems with my target and angle of entry… However, i was lucky enough to find my line for the second try…

Second try was exciting… used 1st arrow and hitting the pocket was… beautiful… I got a 195, 233, 157, and 223! Total: 808. Average: 202.

Rankings came out very late in the evening and i was in 6th place, but still with time to spare for other people to try their luck… I couldn’t wait because i needed to head home as my cough and flu is consuming me…

Final result came in about 10pm… and I’m number 8th12th! (Update: seems like there was another squad afterthat, so i dropped to 12th) :D [Link]

Classmates: I’m not going to class tomorrow!!

Yvonne: so sorry i ffk you…

I gotta head to an early sleep. Roll-off at 9am tomorrow at Sunway Pyramid. Wish me luck!

Understanding Chinese

As you all may know, I’m taking Chinese lessons from a language centre near by (not really near by la… about 15 minutes or so…)

Before this about 2 years back (time really flies) i was taking one at a tuition centre with Dee near her place in Subang… When the relationship ended, so did the classes… Barely covered the basics…

But of course,  I wasn’t gonna give up learning Chinese… Because trying to understand it was challenging…

About 6 months after that, I started taking lessons at the language centre i mentioned earlier. It’s quite a big place to be honest… also cost a lot… RM900 for 1.5 years covering from basics to intermediate Chinese…

Okay okay, you don’t have to come up to me and tell me that you can teach me for less… the question is, do you have the time to teach me up to that level where i can speak fluently? So at this point, language centres is still my choice.

Earlier i was saying about understanding Chinese is challenging. To be honest, pronunciation & tones is relatively easy – if you practise enough… But when it comes to speech, simple sentences, writing, then it comes a challenge…

A friend once told me, I’m not the kind of person who can read and memorise every word i read but more to those who analyse and fit it into a proper puzzle so that it turns up logically, which frankly speaking is quite true. Everything i see in the world should fit properly in a huge puzzle… If it doesn’t, then I’ll go bonkers over it till i could understand why it wouldn’t fit.

Which is also the reason why I’m better at computers and programming than other stuffs like lets say… house chores… haha… to be honest, i can never mop my house… the more i mop, the dirtier it gets…

Anyway, back to the topic…

Because programming is my stronghold, I do tend to relate Chinese (characters, pin yin, pronunciation, etc.) into programming terms… e.g.: if…else, while…wend, etc…

I find writing in Chinese actually fun… Although I’ll complete my exercises a little slower than others, but i do try to write every stroke correctly… of course, there’s rules applied to writing the characters, so in comes the programming logics again.

Overall, I’m learning at a slow pace because I skipped some classes already… if one week once, then most probably I’ve already missed like nearly 2 months worth of classes… :P

Maybe one day I’ll make my own tutorial on writing Chinese characters, using programming logics of course. Hahahaha…

PS: This is my first post using a offline blog editor… Just giving it a try to see how it’s like.

PSS: On my post about my birthday, you may think that the page loaded halfway, but actually it didn’t. the video somehow got stuck at the bottom of the page…

Speeding Caught In Action

Yup. Just like the title says. I was on my way to The Curve via LDP.. Normally I’ll drive about 100km/h no matter where I drove.. I seldom jump 100km/h because I see there’s no point of it unless I’m really late. :P

For some reason I got caught this time on a straight road just after Batu Caves.. as usual traveling around 100km/h and not exceeding it.. The funny thing was I had this thought about a speed camera while driving down the road and thought whether I’ll see one today.. Who knows, my luck came..

Out of no where there’s cars slowing down just after a bend.. I thought, crap.. This couldn’t be my lucky day isn’t it?

Was really hoping that I wasn’t caught speeding, but just when I was about to enter the road block, a police man pointed at me..

So I moved to the side of the road.. Another policeman came over and said this to me:

Police: Ah.. encik.. encik tadi bawak laju di sini.. *points to his clipboard filled with numbers – which i had no idea what it wrote there*
Police: Sama macam orang ini dan ini *points to other people’s summonses*
Me: Oh Ok..
Police: 96km/h dalam zon 80km/h..
Me: Oh Ok.. So.. Macam mana encik?
Police: Macam mana? Encik bayar saman la.. *continues writing on this clipboard*
Me: Tak boleh tolong ke encik?
Police: Tolong macam mana?
Me: *looked at his “Saya Anti-Rasuah” pin* Tak tau encik.. Macam mana encik boleh tolong saya?
Police: *continued writing* Bagi lesen.
Me: *bagi lesen*

*A minute or two later*

Police: Betul ke nak tolong?
Me: Kalau boleh, saya nak..
Police: *looked around and continued writing*
Police: RM50 kalau nak tolong.. *walks away and starts pointing to other cars where to go*
Me: Ok.. *takes out RM50 and waited for him to take*
Police: *came over gave me my license and took the RM50*

As you can see how the word “tolong” turned around from me asking “tolong” to him telling me to “tolong” him.. The “Saya Anti Rasuah” pin is really deceiving.. It should be written as “Saya Mungkin Anti Rasuah. Tanya Saya Dulu.” "Saya Nanti Rasuah"

I do wished I could have used my camera to record this historic event but it would be very risky.. Anyways, I’m glad I escaped it. :P

20th Birthday

A little late, but better than nothing.

I celebrated my birthday a little earlier than the usual 31st December New Year’s Eve thingy where everyone will be sweaty and hot and squished and rubbing and touching and drinking and dancing and spraying snow onto everyone..

2 days before the actual day, Grace and I was thrown a not-so-surprised birthday dinner at TGIFridays, The Curve by the gang.. The gang always varies from time to time, but usually it consists of me & Yvonne, Grace & Kah Fei, JJ & Shirley, Raymond & Tai Yin and finally our gay couple Ju Yau & Alvin (somehow these two always ended up alone together.. Best pair them up right? :P ). However, Ray wasn’t present because of work.

Me being one day younger than Grace, demanded a birthday present from her – as usual.. She didn’t know what to get for me so we ended up exchanging presents that we wanted instead.. Me being practical and simple received a RM30 topup, while Grace being a girl received 2 sticks of Maybelline Lip Gloss (barely covered her cost though.. :P ). It was really funny to receive a topup card that time because that little card actually cost RM30.. :P

Celebrating at Fridays also meant some humiliation was imminent for the both of us.. Just before our turn, the next table had a birthday girl in it and she had to stand on the chair while everyone else sang a long birthday song. What do you think will happen when the both of us stand on our chairs?

Being me, I bring you the view from the top:

Seriously. Speechless.

Food was nice, cost a bomb as well. But luckily most of us shared with each other’s partners except for Tai Yin coz Ray wasn’t there, Alvin and Ju Yau. All of us had fun – they watching me and Grace on our chairs, and us exchanging our little presents. :P

I didn’t have high hopes for the actual day because I’ll be spending my whole day – day till night – at Raintree. In the afternoon there’s a bowling competition between the Youths and the Adults.. At night, I have to attend a New Year’s Eve dinner which costs RM140 per head.

To keep it short, Adults won against the Youth but a couple of points. A lot of the Youth bowlers aren’t here due to most of them are outstation studying.. I’m one of the two oldest ones who’s still studying locally.

XP wished me saying that who will ever forget my birthday however Dee forgot to wish until 2-3 days later..

The dinner featured Leonard Tan, the person who did voice over and radio commercials for adverts like Nescafe, Gardenia Bread, Nano Nano sweets, etc. The dinner wasn’t really spectacular, but there were a lot of performances. Lucky draw prizes was also lucrative with a trip to Bangkok as it’s main prize..

Then the countdown started – which meant my birthday is about to end.

I also dance for the first time with my sisters.. I can only say I suck like mad. Need clubbing experience.. :P

Those who already seen my wish list – and didn’t get anything for me, I hate you.

Those who did, I lafu you. :P

Grace got me a nice RM30 topup card, The gang threw a party for us, Yvonne got me the Armani Code body spray, monkichii is about to get me a hosting for free (kinda..) and finally I bought myself a RM5 phone cover.

Thanks everyone!

Oh.. Because it’s my 20th birthday, it’s also my 200th post! :D

Warping Into 2007

It’s been a while.

Internet is kinda back.. But still sucky at times.. Of course the best time to surf is at night.. I’ve also restored my previous theme.. (although i feel it’s kinda ugly at some parts now..) If anyone has any suggestions for the appearance, do leave a comment.. always open for ideas..

Nothing much happened since the last time i blogged except for my birthday, J2EE training in college and my sisters going to college.. There’s nothing much to do as well as everyone else seems to be busy with study and work..

Class starting on the 18th and i’m actually looking forward to it.. Funny isn’t it? So much slacking in the previous year.. it surprises me that i’m even looking forward for the coming one.. But it’s sad to hear that alot of my previous classmates aren’t joining this coming intake because of resits and those other stuff you need to do when you fail something..

On another note, I’m tryin to apply for scholarship for me course.. however, APIIT not offering any for the UK degrees.. Dad and i have spoken to them about this and they said they’ve submitted a proposal for a merit scholarship.. with my past GPA score, i may be able to get a 50% scholarship.. a 3.7 GPA will give a full scholarship.. something to aim for this year isn’t it? :D

Twins started college already.. A Levels at HELP. Seems they need help more than me.. One wanna pursue into Advertising.. Another is into something with ecology, biology, Miss Earth/World/Universe/watever and saving the earth. Not to mention World Peach.. I mean World Peace.. Talking about HELP, like a friend told me before, APIIT is better.. which i found it quite true for certain reasons.. Even though their campus has WAY bigger carpark than ours and nearly the whole college is air conditioned, but somehow i felt the environment isn’t as nice as APIIT..

Oh, did I mentioned that HELP’s founder was my dad’s lecturer when he was in university? Dad took advantage of that of course.. :\

Oh OH.. Gotta tell this out..

Last week while enquiring about scholarship at college, Dad, me and twins went for lunch at a burger stall near by.. I’ll skip the part where we parked, ordered food & drinks, ate the food and drank the drinks, and walked back to the car (wait, why did i say those out?) There’s a car who blocked our car right infront of us without any contact number on it.. After some effort trying to push away the car and trying to get ahold of the driver, Dad got pissed off and did the most cool thing i’ve seen this year..

Dad got the X/T Wrench (neh.. tat one u use to unplug ur tyre from your car..) and broke the quarter glass.. I tell you.. the sound of the glass breaking was SOOOOO cool. Alarm went off and it was beserk.. everyone started looking and wondering what were we doing.. i put the car to neutral and let go the hand brake.. dad push, but the steering was locked at a tilt.. so it was moving to the middle of the car park.. we didn’t bother to move it back and we cabutted.

Of course twins were shocked and the car was pin drop quiet till we reached home.. when mom found out about it then i kena lecture for helping dad.. Apa ni.. aku pulak kena.. Anyways, is it illegal or unethical to do this? I doubt it’s illegal, but it’s surely unethical..

So.. How’s the new year been treating you?
